I have been successful in R&D because I work from a deep, first-principles understanding of hardware, systems, and networks.
spd: Simple Datagram Protocol
A framed, sequenced, flow-controlled datagram protocol for low-power microcontrollers talking over unreliable links like UART, RS-485, and USB CDC, with CRC-16 integrity checking and a sliding-window ARQ. Single-header, C99, zero dynamic allocation.
M6 Webserver and Cache
A platform for building and deploying fast websites, covering the full stack from TLS and JWT auth to Tera-templated rendering and edge caching. This site runs on it.
Cisco Nexus 3550-T
A low-latency Layer 3 switch built around a Xilinx Virtex UltraScale Plus FPGA, with 48 ports of 25G Ethernet and pluggable ultra-low-latency applications for exchange connectivity. I led its design and marketing.
PhD Dissertation: Latency-First Datacenter Network Scheduling
The public archive of my PhD dissertation, Latency-First Datacenter Network Scheduling, also published as Cambridge Computer Laboratory Technical Report 943.
Accelerated TCP Engine (ATE)
A hardware TCP transmit engine that generates and sends frames directly from FPGA logic. Tick-to-trade as low as 33ns, with 512 independent connections per port. I led its design, development, measurement, and marketing.
ExaDisk
A high-rate NVMe capture disk drive, built as the storage stage of the Exablaze capture pipeline behind the ExaNIC HPT and Exact-Capture. I led its design and marketing. Not carried forward as part of Cisco.
ExaLINK Hydra
A high-density Layer 1 matrix switch. Taps, patches, and fans out connections at latencies as low as 3.2ns, replacing up to 53 optical taps in a single 1RU unit. I led its design and marketing.
Exact-Capture
Lossless packet capture for ExaNIC adapters, built to record complete network traffic at line rate without dropping packets.
ExaNIC software
Drivers, libraries, and utilities for ExaNIC network adapters, including exasock kernel-bypass socket acceleration and nanosecond-precision hardware timestamping.
CamIO: Cambridge IO Library
A Cambridge IO library for high-performance stream processing, later used by the QJump project.
libchaste: The Hasty C Library
A C utility library: type-safe data structures, a command-line parser, and architecture-agnostic performance counters.
